Sunscreens - Matte Finish

These sunscreens (in my opinion) are good for oilier skin types and have a more matte finish. Sunscreens that are very mattifying IMO (for very oily skin) are annotated with an asterisk at the beginning.

BIORE | Uv Aqua Rich Aqua Protect Lotion SPF50+ Pa++++ (🇯🇵)
I did not expect a matte sunscreen from Biore but here we are! The addition of silica make this a mattifying formula, but the particles are large so the you can see the particles in the fluid and it does go on with a cast on me that goes away quickly. Water resistant, no eye stinging, and definitely feels like a hardy sunscreen. A great pick from Biore.
CANCER COUNCIL | Fluid Matte Invisible (🇦🇺)
Oh this is utter perfection. Outside of the usual things I look for in a perfect sunscreen (no cast, no eye sting), but this has high protection AND has a little bit of matte finish which I think makeup lovers would love. Overall, absolutely stunning.
EUCERIN | Dry Touch Sun Gel Cream SPF 50+ (🇩🇪)
This is AMAZING. I had a hard time classifying this because it's kind of a gel and kind of a lotion. It's also moisturizing, but still feels matte-ish? It's hard to explain. Anyway, for a water resistant sunscreen, this is exceptionally non-greasy. This also has a light floral/sweet smell that I like. I haven't yet used this on my face but I'll let you know when I do. For now, this is a top tier body sunscreen!
EUCERIN | Oil Control Gel-Cream Dry Touch SPF50+ (🇩🇪)
This was reformulated and it's even better now. One of the best mattifying sunscreens I've ever tried. It's a mattifying gel cream without being drying, easy to apply and spread, has no cast/eye stinging, and comes in a PUMP. God tier SPF here Eucerin. This new version also has more advanced filters, some forms of licorice root extract, and it's water resistant now! Obsessed.
GARNIER | Ambre Solaire Ultra-Light Sensitive Sun Protection Face Fluid SPF 50+ (🇬🇧)
To me, this is INCREDIBLY similar to the La Roche Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid, which isn't surprising since they're both owned by L'Oreal. This gives high protection, is really inexpensive (at least in Europe), and has a nice SOMEWHAT matte finish. I'm obsessed.
Silky, mattifying, and gorgeous. This gel leaves a beautiful silky finish on the skin that's mattifying but not drying. I've heard people report that this pills on them, but it was fine for me. There is a decently strong alcohol smell when it first applies, but it doesn't linger on me. No cast or eye stinging, absolutely stunning.
This is one of my favorite matte sunscreens. The formula is definitely dry touch, doesn't sting my eyes, no cast. Has the added boost of Australian water resistance for 4 hours, so it's SPF 50 the whole time. Overall, perfection.
Oil slicks rejoice, this may be the sunscreen for you. This is matte, and I mean MATTE. It dries down incredibly fast, to the point where if you rub this into your hands before applying it, it will set on your hands. It also can feel very grippy on the face. Some people have told me this makes their makeup look blotchy and pill, but I can't attest to that. This includes some nice acne-fighting and mattifying ingredients and has a bit of a fruity smell. I enjoyed this, but there may be some caveats for your personal skin.
One of my all time faves, if only it were easier to get outside of AUS. The vehicle is moisturizing but it doesn't feel heavy which is LOVELY, my skin just drinks it up. No cast, no eye stinging for me, just overall WONDERFUL.
This is a very… confusing product, but I think it will work for a lot of people! The finish of this feels matte, but at the same time extremely heavy on the skin. Think of it like a heavy mattifying moisturizer. I definitely would skip moisturizer if I was wearing this. There’s a touch of a fresh fragrance to this that’s so subtle to the point of me not realizing it was there. No eye stinging throughout the day either. As strange as this formula is to me, if you want something that’s very moisturizing but also want a matte base to work with for makeup, this may be a good, albeit expensive, option to check out.
This is so nice! I don't think Nivea knows what a fluid is because this is very much a lotion but ANYWAY. A really nice semi-matte finish, no cast/eye stinging, and has a really light fruity/fresh scent that doesn't linger after application. This also includes a patented brightening ingredient by Nivea's parent company, Beiersdorf, called Isobutylamido Thiazolyl Resorcinol, which I'm pretty sure is Luminous630. Really enjoyed this one.
This is a beautiful semi matte sunscreen! Moisturizing, mattifying, no cast or eye stinging, and incredibly inexpensive (at least at Boots). Has a bit of a floral smell. Love this.
This is one of my favorite sunscreen sticks. I generally don't love sticks for myself because they tend to be fairly heavy / sticky but this one is silky and goes on like NOTHING. It's... magical. No cast or eye stinging, but does have a fairly strong fragrance that does linger when you apply it. The other slightly weird thing about this is that my stick did just fall out of the packaging once, which was weird AF. This is a really nice stick and one of the few that I would purchase for myself.
A sunscreen stick that’s not incredibly greasy? Who would have thought! This has very floral smell and while the finish is very silky, it will still feel a bit heavy on the skin. It applies easily around the eyes and is a great companion to the this brand’s Bio Watery Sun Cream. Stunning.
